Wright brothers completed the world’s first
sustained and controlled heavier-than-air
powered flight using only:
•spruce and ash wood for the fuselage,
bracings, skid tie bars, and other elements
•roller-skate wheels for pulleys
•waxed twine to hold the frame together
•some steel in the form of rods and sheets
for strapping and control cables
•cotton muslin or similar close-weaved
fabric to cover the wings
