1. P1. Use your feel research to give a lescripton with pictures of the structure anl
organiaaton of the retaie sector in your secton of Nieuwegein:
On October the 5th we went to Nieuwegein for our group research in City Plaza. We needed to ask
questons to diferent kinds of retailer in order to have a vision of how the structure and organizaton
of the retail sector is in Nieuwegein. Each group had his own secton to prevent that not so many
groups (students) were going to the same stores at the same tme. We also got a list with questons
to ask from school, and we also added questons ourselves

With the answers that we got from the shops we could fnd out what kind retail it is, who their
compettors are, what their distributon methods are, and if they are providing product or services
etc.

City plaza is a big shopping mall, the mall has an old and a new secton, the new secton looks a lot
beter. They have diferent kinds of stores. Such has restaurant, clothing stores, drug stores, candy
stores etc. 22 stores are about empty.

A. Siae anl trenls in saees:

Retailers are shops that are focused on proft by providing good products and services.

The revenue of 4 shops in Nieuwegein were large, the revenue of the other 6 shops were medium.
The revenue of the shops are overall well. And they are doing it very good. The revenue of 4 shops
was increased the last couple of years, and the revenue of 6 shops have stayed the same in the last
couple of years.[ CITATION gro \l 1043 ]

There are a lot of trends going on in City plaza Nieuwegein. A lot of stores in Nieuwegein are opening
more stores in diferent kinds of places, all over the country. Such as the Levi’s they are were 3 weeks
open in Nieuwegein and they are already planning to open a new Levi’s store in Nijmegen.[ CITATION
gro \l 1043 ]

Shops are also selling out of their traditonal range to get more consumers. Levi’s for example is
known of their jeans but they also sell jackets, shirts, jewelry and shoes.

2

, Social media is also getng more important. Shops can easily interact with the customers. Customers
can see on social media when a shop has a big sale or if the shop got new products. Menatwork use a
lot of social media to put that kind of informaton of their product. To interact with their customer
they use Facebook, Twiter, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube.

There are a lot of fashion/clothing stores in City plaza Nieuwegein for example Coolcat, Levi’s and
Menatwork. Because the season is changing so are the clothing/fashion changing. It’s getng cold so
the stores don’t sell summer clothes anymore but their selling fall season clothes. Clothing stores get
their clothes/products each season, because their getng their product each season the level of their
stocks are getng lower.[ CITATION gro \l 1043 ]

A lot of retailers have sales over a longer period of tme, they do that ofen if there prices have
increased. For example the Ici Paris in City Plaza. They have a sale from 5 October tll 25 October.
Their prices are very high especially the perfumes. Without a sale the prices of the perfumes are
between the 50 and the 100 euro’s. With the sales the prices of the perfumes are between the 10
and 40 euro’s. The Kruidvat also has a sale from 19 October tll 1 November. Their prices are very
variable. They have discounts of make-up, body care, hair products and perfumes. E.G. Without the
sale the prices of the make-up is between the 5 and 40 euro’s. With the sales the prices of the make-
up is between the 1 and 20 euro’s.[ CITATION www \l 1043 ]

Consumers are willing to pay more for their personal products than non-personal product. You can
see that by a lot of retailer, e.g. the Kruidvat. Perfumes, make-up, lingerie (personal) all those
products cost a lot more than candy and drinks. Retailers are following the consumers mind because
if you really want something 9 of the 10 tmes you forget about the price. So retailers know that and
that’s why their asking more money on the personal product, than non-personal products because
they know that the consumers is willing to pay more for their personal products.

The VAT has changed the last couple of years for all the shops in the Netherlands. The primary
products (food) has been the same 6%. The secondary products (clothes, electronics) has changed
from 19% to 21%.

B. Locaton anl siae in stores:
The shops that we have visited are located in City Plaza.
City plaza is a big shopping mall located in Nieuwegein. People can easily go there by car, bus
and the shopping mall is nearby the tram. The stores are indoors and outdoors. The stores
that we have researched and observed were outdoors. The spaces of the stores are various.
They have big stores and small stores. But most the stores that we have researched and
observed were medium/large. There were a lot of multple stores (shops that have more
than ten locatons in the Netherlands e.g.). Some shops are located in city plaza for a reason.
For example the Levi’s, the store was frst not a Levi’s but another shop, that didn’t do it that
well. Levi’s came to city plaza because the other store was leaving and Levi’s is now stuck in a
purchase contract for three years.
