➢Caused by Mycoplasma mycoides subsp
mycoides, a gram negative bacteria
➢It is a respiratory disease of cattle and buffaloes
➢ The organism can also be found in saliva, urine,
fetal membranes and uterine discharges
➢Animals less than three years old are more
susceptible
➢Also called as lung plague/lung sickness
, ➢CBPP is highly contagious and generally
accompanied by pleurisy
➢Incubation period:3-8 weeks
➢Morbidity rate – 70%
➢Mortality rate – 50%
➢Of recovered animals, 25% may become
carriers(Lungers) with chronic lung lesions in
the form of sequestra of variable size
