Pressure Groups-
Groups of people who have the same idea and campaign for changes to the law. They influence
the government and Parliament to legislate on matters that interest them.
These groups can be a few people or a large group with thousands of people.
They also use multiple different methods in their campaigns including petitions, marches or
strikes. There are types of pressure groups these are Sectional groups, Cause groups, Insider
groups and Outsider groups.
Advantages Disadvantages
Raise public awareness of an issue Are biased and don't consider alternative views
Politicians are afraid to upset larger groups Outsider groups may resort to violence and crime
to promote their cause.
Detailed knowledge of their interests Supporters of pressure groups only represents a
small population of the world.
Media-
TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, the internet, social media etc.
These forms of media inform the public, represent the public and help form public opinions.
There is a strong link between the media and pressure groups.
