BUS 5511-Human Resource Management
Explain the role of Human Resource Management in organizations today. Which
competencies do you consider core for your organization and why?
Human resources management revolves around the managerial decision regarding the human
resources of an organization. The roles of human resource management include managerial
functions and operative functions. The managerial functions include planning, organizing,
directing, and controlling (HRD Connect, 2019).
The planning function of HRM includes assessing the current human resource supply and
demand, forecasting the future human resource demand, and proposing alternatives to balance
the forecasted human resource demand with supply (HRD Connect, 2019).
The organizing function of HRM deals with the development of an organizational structure that
will enable the organization to achieve its goals. The directing function of an HRM deals with
the development of employees through instructions and encouragement to fully utilize their
potential. Finally, the controlling function of an HRM involves the evaluation of employee
performance and implementing control measures based on the required performance.
The operational functions include recruitment and selection, Job analysis & design, performance
management, learning & development, compensation management, welfare, and HRMS (HRD
Connect, 2019). Each of these roles is geared towards achieving the firm's goals. The
recruitment & selection process is concerned with getting the right candidates to meet the human
resource demand.
The job analysis & design function focuses on describing the requirements of a job including
educational background, experience, and skills. Moreover, the basic duties and responsibilities
required from that position are also described. Another role of HRM is performance management
which includes continuous evaluation and feedback.
