BIOLOGY - HUMAN ANATOMY
Human anatomy is the study of the structure and organization of the human body, encompassing systems such
as the skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, endocrine, reproductive, and
integumentary systems.
- Understanding anatomy and physiology helps us comprehend how our bodies work and how different systems
interact to maintain health.
Anatomy: Study of the structure of the human body.
Physiology: Study of the function of the human body.
Cells and Tissues
- Cells are the basic building blocks of life. They come in various shapes and sizes and perform specific functions
within the body.
- Tissues are groups of cells that work together to perform a particular function. There are four main types of
tissues in the body: epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue.
Understanding cells and tissues helps us comprehend how different organs and systems are
structured and how they function.
Skeletal System
- The skeletal system is made up of bones, cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. It provides support, protection, and
structure for the body.
- Bones are living tissues that are constantly being broken down and rebuilt through a process called remodeling.
- Bones also serve as a storage site for minerals like calcium and phosphorus, and they produce red and white
blood cells in the bone marrow.
The skeletal system works closely with the muscular system to allow movement and with
the circulatory system to produce blood cells.
