The impact of two travel factors in two long haul tourism destnatonss
Factor ones health issues
Health issues are health risks which could afect tourists travelling to certain countries which may be
afected by an epidemic.i
In 2014, the Ebola virus spread through the majority of western Africa killing over 11,000 residents
and didn’t end untl 2015; it can be transmited from wild animals and bodily fuids such as blood,
urine and semen.i The main symptoms of Ebola are; fever, joint and muscle pain, rash and
headaches.i This can negatvely impact tourists because fights which may have been previously
booked will be cancelled to prevent the virus spreading to other countries.i Also, families who may
already be there will be worried for their children as they have weaker immune systems – this
means they will have to book an earlier fight or not leave their hotel.i This will ruin their holiday and
make it much less enjoyable whilst also wastng their money.i Overall I think the Ebola had a
negatve impact on the travel and tourism industry this is because for people’s safety many travel
agencies had to refund holidays meaning they lose out on money.i
In 2015, the Zika virus spread through the majority of South America, mainly Brazil also killing
thousands of people because there is no known cure.i This virus is transmited through mosquitoes
carrying the virus and bitng humans.i The main symptoms are conjunctvits, fever, joint pain and
rashes.i
