Introduction:
The Iliad is an ancient Greek epic poem by Homer. It is one of the oldest works of
literature still widely read by modern audience. It is about the legendary conflict between
the early Greeks and the people of Troy. This war was celebrated in the Iliad and the
Odyssey of Homer. In the traditional accounts, Paris son of the Trojan king, ran off with
Helen, wife of Menelaus of Sparta, whose brother Agamemnon then led a Greek expedition
against Troy. The war lasted almost ten years finally ending came when the Greek pretended
to withdraw leaving behind them a large wooden horse with a raiding party concealed
inside. When the Trojan brought the horse into their city, the hidden Greeks opened the
gates to their comrades, who then sacked Troy, massacred its men, and carried off its
women.
ILLIAD SUMMARY:
Priam was the last and legendary king of Troy. He was the father of fifty sons and
many daughters. These children include famous mythological figures Hector, Paris, Helenus,
Cassandra, Deiphobus, Troilus, Laodice, Polyxena, Cerusa, Polydorus. Priam was killed
when he was around eighty years old by Achilles’ son Neoptolemus.
Menelaus is the king of Troy and husband the Greek beauty, Helen whose abduction
by Paris led to Trojan war. Agamemnon was the brother of Menelaus and they decided to
fight against Troy and bring Helen back. It was a prestige issue for them. So, they
