ASSIGNMENT 4A

Organisation 1
-CROYDON COLLEGE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT:
The science department at Croydon College has well-
equipped, modern labs where students can learn a variety of
scientific concepts and best practices. The purpose of the
department of science is to provide students with theoretical
and conceptual information to help them study various
scientific ideas using various scientific methodologies.
Students participate in a variety of science experiments in
the college lab to help them understand the concepts of
science. Because laboratory work involves several risks and
hazards, these practical's are carried out under the
supervision of skilled instructors.
-MAIN HAZARDS IN SCIENCE DEPARTMENT:
Science-related job is always filled with dangers and risks.
Risk is the possibility that something will go wrong; examples
of hazards include noise, stress electricity, chemicals, etc.
Every person who works in a lab is at risk from potential
hazards. Numerous hazardous compounds can be found in
the laboratory of the college science department. In addition,
there are biological substances and electrical circuits that can
be dangerous. In the scientific department of a college, the
biggest risks are:
Chemical hazards: These hazards result from exposure to
hazardous and damaging chemicals in a laboratory. This

, includes all chemicals, including toxic, corrosive, reactive, and
flammable ones. If needed safety precautions are not
performed, both inorganic and organic compounds can be
poisonous and hazardous to the skin and eyes. Some
compounds have the ability to produce heat, which can
result in severe thermal burns. Since some chemicals are
cancer-causing, it is important to limit exposure. Reactions of
chemicals can be strong and cause major harm to the people
present in the lab if proper ventilation is not enough. It can
be highly hazardous if someone inhales the poisonous
chemical, so it's important to take precautions to keep
everyone safe. It is especially important that you keep all
food products away from the dangerous chemical because
there is a chance that they might get caught on hands or food
and cause poisoning. To reduce the danger of hazards, it is
important that we stick to all safety regulations.
Physical hazards: These risks are brought on by handling
mistakes which can lead to serious harm. These risks include
problems related to noise, slipping, projectiles, heaters,
handling, and moving machinery. Standing too long or on a
wet floor increases the chance of slipping and falling. It is
essential to have the right handling equipment because
moving or carrying heavy or heated apparatus can lead in
burns and other serious injuries. The main danger, aside from
that, is a glass tube that can cause hand or finger cuts.
Beakers and flasks made of broken glass are particularly
hazardous. All these dangers can be minimised if everybody
in the department gets the appropriate training.
