Earth Layers
The layers of earth are the crust, mantle, outer core and inner core. The portion of Earth underneath the crust contains the asthenosphere and the mesosphere is in the mantle. The outer layer of Earths crust is made up of huge pieces of rock called tectonic plates. The borders, or cracks, between tectonic plates are called faults. Tectonic plates move due to heated currents deep within Earth. Scientists believe that 250 million years ago that continents were connected. A tsunami is caused by tectonic plates moving underwater. The earths inner core is made mostly of iron. Over million of years folds can form mountains and valley.
