Highlights of The Rehabilitation Act of 1992 -

Rehabilitation engineering, Purchasing diagnostic services only when not readily
available.

The Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998 -
Replaced the IWRP with the Individual Plan for Employment (IPE) to support the
exercise of informed choice of the individual in the selection of the IPE's employment
outcome, specific services, service providers, and the methods to procure the services;
introduced a new category of service, namely, the provision of technical assistance and
consultation to individual's to pursue self-employment, telecommuting, or a small
business operation; and authorize to provide this service to facilitate the transition of
students with disabilities fro school to post-school activities, including employment.

VR services, people with disabilities must meet 2 eligibility criteria -
(1) The presence of a physical or a mental impairment which for such an individual
constitutes or results in a substantial impediment to employment (2) The individual with
disability can benefit in terms of an employment outcome from VR services.

Goals of VR -
(a) inclusion, (b) opportunity, (c) independence, (d) empowerment, (e) rehabilitation,
and (f) quality of life

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 -
Federal civil rights law designed to prevent discrimination and enable individuals with
disabilities to participate fully in all aspects of society. Guarantees equal opportunity for
individuals with disabilities in employment (Title I), public service (Title II), public
accommodations (Title III), telecommunications (Title IV), and other misc provisions
(Title V). A person with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major
life activity (cognitive, social, emotional, and physical.)
