-Sometimes granted, but if not tension will arise
-family member may withdraw from unit or stay
-if choose stay and do not conform, breaking point may be the beginning of their "manic"
behavior
-parents will try to assert authority and when daughter still does not accept, parents will
turn to criminal justice system and label their daughter as delinquent
