He has not had an opportunity to engage in discussions with adults as his grandmother is always busy in her garden and doing other household chores. He has a limited frame of reference. Emma reads simple books. She can read in phrases rather than word by word and can read silently to herself rather than out loud. She understands most of what she reads. She can write more quickly and writes words and short sentences. Her spelling may not always be accurate, but she has learnt most of the high-frequency words.
