ACUTE DACRYOCYSTITIS
Acute suppurative inflammation of the
lacrimal sac.
- Characterized by presence of painful
swelling in the region of the sac
Aetiology:
- Acute exacerbation of chronic
dacryocystitis
- Acute periacryocystitis due to direct
involvement from the neighbouring
, Infected structures such as:
• Paranasal sinuses
• Surrounding bones
• Dermal abscess or caries teeth in the
upper jaw
- Causative organisms
• Streptococcus haemolyticus
• Pneumococcus
• Staphylococcus
