, Course Description
• This module is the foundational module of the programme.
• As an MA programme in diplomacy and international relations, it’s
very important for the students to be provided first with the bases
necessary to achieve the goals of the programme by having the basic
theoretical as well as practical knowledge and skill about diplomacy
and IRs.
• Thus, the module provides basic knowledge of international relations
that enable the students to analyse system of diplomacy and
international relations within the contemporary world politics relevant
to Ethiopia and Africa.
• The overall aim of the module is to acquaint the student with the
contemporary international system with regard to the role of
diplomacy and international relations.

introduce the basic debates of theoretical and
epistemological approaches to diplomacy and
international relations
• It also aims to analyse the diversity of
conceptions of theory in the study of
diplomacy and international relations
