, VENE PUNCTURE
• An evasive procedure to which cannula is introduced in to
a vein.
• Purpose
Withdrawal and transfusion of blood and it is component.
Establish venous access in critical illness.
To balance fluid and electrolyte.

• INDICATION
Administer intravenous drugs.
Collect blood for lab investigation.
Blood transfusion.
For rehydration incase of severe dehydration.
For IV fluids in circulatory collapse.
, CONT…………………………
• SITES.
Dorsal vein in the hands.
Basilic vein
Radial vein
Femoral vein.
Jugular vein.
Cephalic vein.
NB veins in the lower extremities are not suitable for adult client because of risk of thrombus
formation.
Forearms and arms veins are suitable for adult. Scalp and feet vein are suitable for infants.
The most frequently used site are vein of the fore arm as the bones of the forearm act as natural
support.
