Exam 2024 Exam Updates with Tested and
Verified Updates Rated A+

1). List five environmental factors that have a negative effect on health, and five environmental
factors that have a positive effect on health

 Ans: Five environmental factors that have negative effects on health are being exposed
to chemicals and pollution, abuse, an illness, obesity and, prenatal alcohol exposure.
Although, five environmental factors that have a positive effect on health can be, reducing
stress levels, having nutritious food choices, getting 8-9 hours of uninterrupted night-time
sleep, having access to high-quality medical and dental care, and lastly, having close
relationships allowing to form stable and meaningful relationships.

2). Explain how heredity contributes to health.

 Ans: Heredity contributed to health because it determines growth, development and as
well as health potential. Heredity can also assess inherited health problems, for example,
cancer, mental health disorders, deafness, etc.

3). The consumption of food is essential for life and has a direct effect on a child's nutritional
status, behaviour, health and development. list four critical roles that the body uses
nutrients for.

 Ans: Four critical roles that the body uses nutrients for are, supplying energy, promoting
growth and development, improving resistance to illness and infection, and lastly building
and repairing body tissue.

4). Explain why an abundant food supply does not assure good nutrition for everyone.

 Ans: Depending on the family's financial recourses, geological location, nutrition
knowledge, etc. The child could not be getting enough food, or not enough of all food
groups. As well, most children spend most of their day at out-of-home childcare
programs. There may be an abidance of food, however, the child may not be fed food that
has a high nutritional value.

5). Explain how illness affects a child's nutritional needs. how does nutrition impact learning?

 Ans: If a child has frequent illnesses, their appetite can be a lot less which will limit his/
her intake of nutrients. This poor nutrition can also increase their susceptibility to illness,

, infection, and nutritional deficiency and can prolong their recovery. If a child has an illness
and is poorly nourished from lack of appetite, they can appear more quiet, withdrawn, and
can have disruptive behaviours in the classroom. This will affect their learning throughout
the day, and their day will differ from the well-nourished children.

6). Why is sleep important and how much sleep should preschool age children have each day?
what are some ways in which a child, who refuses to sleep, can be encouraged to rest
quietly?

 Ans: Sleep is important for proper development, a young child is developing at a fast
rate. A preschool child needs about 10-13 hours of deep sleep, this is not including naps
throughout the day. Some ways to encourage a child to sleep who refuses are, to set up a
quiet calming environment, have the lights down and put on calming music. You can talk
in a quiet and calming tone while rubbing their back gently, slowly doing this until they are
relaxed and are able to fall asleep.

7). Would it be realistic to expect an 11-month-old infant to be toilet trained? explain. should
parents be concerned if their 9-month-old infant cannot sit up without support? explain.

 Ans: I don't think it is realistic for an 11-month-old infant to be toilet trained by that age
yet, from birth to 12 months they are growing immensely. To start potty training, they need
to be able to communicate that they need to go to the toilet, as well as recognize that they
need to go. And by that age, it is very unlikely.
A parent may start to be somewhat concerned, although some children can have a hard
time sitting up at 9-months, children start sitting up on their own around 8 months of age.
A parent can take their child to get assessed, in case there is something wrong with the
child.

8). How can early childhood educator's observations benefit the health of a child?

 Ans: Early childhood educators' observations on the health of a child can benefit them
as when teachers are always alert to any changes in a child's appearance or behaviour
they are able to identify early signs of an illness or an undiagnosed health condition. This
can help the spread of a disease or the potential negative effects of a disorder later on in
a child's life if left unnoticed.

9). Your text notes the importance of correct posture and body mechanics for both children
and adults. list three practices that you can do with children to support this learning.

 Ans: Three practices that can support correct posture and body mechanics for children
are teaching them ways to sit stand and lift things properly. They can be very simple, for
example, getting the child to sit squarely in a chair with their backs resting flat against the
chair back and their feet flat on the floor. Another can be to make sure they stand with

, their shoulders square, chin up and chest out, with their weight being distributed evenly.
Lastly, can be to make sure they lift a heavier object properly, this is done by having both
legs put in a wider stance and lifting with their legs, this allows less strain on back
muscles and decreases the risk of injuries.

10). Children's oral health is an important component of their overall health. learning to brush
their teeth in the correct manner contributes to oral health. list five ways of making this
routine fun for children.

 Ans: Five ways to make oral health fun for children can be to replace sweets with fresh
fruit as sweets can cause problems with our gums, letting the child pick out their favourite
toothbrush or fun flavoured toothpaste. Another way to play a 2-minute fun song while
brushing their teeth, having a reward system where if they brush their teeth properly or
floss then they can get a gold star. Lastly, is to make brushing and flossing time a family
activity.

11). Sometimes early childhood educators are the first to notice signs of chronic diseases and
medical conditions. it is important to never diagnose the child or alarm the parent. instead,
the parent should be referred to a specialist. why are many chronic health problems difficult
to identify in the young child?

 Ans: It is difficult to diagnose chronic health problems in children because sometimes
it is hard to determine if a runny nose is a sign of a cold or if it's a sign of allergies.
Sometimes when there is suspicion that a child could have asthma, there could be poor
air quality like forest fires. Or even it could just be a cold that's gone into their chest, which
can cause a lot of coughing.

12). Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction to certain substances (e.g., bee stings, medications
and certain foods) that can cause difficulty breathing, itching, unconsciousness and
possible death. how would you respond to an incident of anaphylaxis?

 Ans: In the incident of anaphylaxis, an ambulance should be called right away. If the
person has an Epipen, that should be injected into the upper thigh. It's always good to be
calm in situations like this, as the person in anaphylaxis will be worse if you are freaking
out.

13). What three factors must be present for an infection to be communicable?

 Ans: Three factors that must be present for an infection to be communicable are a
pathogen be present and available for transmission. These germs are commonly located
in discharges of the nose, throat and lungs, or even in the blood or urine. Most pathogens
need a living susceptible host to survive, for example, a human or insect. Most hosts
breakthroughs in the skin, the respiratory tract or the digestive system. Lastly, is the
