The unit covers following points - Pavement Materials: - Bitumen: A viscous petroleum-based material used as a binder in asphalt concrete pavement. - Tar: A black, sticky substance derived from coal or wood, historically used as a binder in pavement construction. - Aggregate: Crushed stone, gravel, or sand used as a structural filler in pavement layers. - Tests to Select Materials: - Durability: Assessing the ability of materials to withstand environmental and traffic-induced stresses over time. - Hardness: Measuring the resistance of materials to indentation or deformation under applied loads. - Toughness: Evaluating the ability of materials to absorb energy and resist fracture or cracking. - Crushing Strength: Determining the ability of materials to withstand compressive forces without failure.
