Dear Madam,

I am writing this letter to outline reasons why individuals may
experience additional needs. There are different reasons why individual may need
additional and additional needs are the extra support that individuals may require
when they suffer from physical needs, emotional needs, communications needs,
behavioural needs, cognitive needs, sensory needs, environmental needs and
developmental needs. There are quite a few reasons of why individuals may need
additional needs and that may be based on age, injury which is caused from
accidents, genetics, which a disorder is inherited from a family member or is a fault
in one’s own genes, disability, developmental and environmental. These additional
needs of the person may be for temporary or for a lifetime. Also, all these reasons
will be explained in details.

GENETICS FACTORS

A genetic factor is when we inherit a condition from a family member or it is a fault in
one’s own genes. Example of genetic factors can be cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome
and also sickle cell disorder. An example of genetic factor is Down syndrome. Down
syndrome is a genetic disorder and it happens when an individual has an extra
chromosome called trisomy21. This genetic disorder slows an individual’s intellectual
abilities. The common physical signs of Down syndrome are decreased or poor
muscle tone, a flatten facial characteristics, the individual may have small ears or
mouth, the individual may also have short neck and small head, ears and mouth
(Nhs, 2015). The additional needs that people with Down syndrome experience are
learning difficulties, autism, hearing loss, a weakened immune system, poor eyesight
