Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study

portion of the population and contributing significantly to the country's GDP.
Despite its importance, the agricultural sector in Kenya faces various
challenges, including climate change, limited access to modern farming
technologies, and market access constraints. This study aims to explore the
challenges and opportunities faced by farmers in Kenya and their impact on
agricultural productivity and economic development.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While agriculture plays a crucial role in Kenya's economy, many farmers
struggle to overcome barriers such as limited access to financing, outdated
farming practices, and inadequate support services. This study aims to
investigate the challenges and opportunities faced by farmers in Kenya and
their implications for agricultural productivity and economic growth.

Kenya.
1.7 Scope of the Study
The study focuses on farmers operating in various agricultural sectors in
Kenya, including crop farming, livestock rearing, and agribusiness. Data will
be collected from farmers, government agencies, and industry experts to
ensure a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the agricultural sector in
Kenya.
1.8 Limitation of the Study
Due to time and resource constraints, the study will focus on selected
regions in Kenya, which may limit the generalizability of the findings.
Additionally, the study relies on self-reported data from farmers, which may
be subject to bias.
1.9 Definition of Terms
Agriculture: The practice of cultivating crops and raising livestock for
food, fiber, and other products.
Smallholder Farmers: Farmers who operate small farms and rely
primarily on family labor for agricultural activities.
Agribusiness: The business of agricultural production, including
farming, processing, and distribution of agricultural products.
