Class notes General Biology 1
The cell cycle is a complex process that involves the growth, division, and duplication of cells. It is divided into two main stages: interphase and mitosis. During interphase, the cell grows and replicates its DNA. Mitosis, on the other hand, involves the division of the cell's nucleus and the separation of its duplicated chromosomes into two identical daughter nuclei. This is followed by cytokinesis, which is the division of the cell's cytoplasm, resulting in the formation of two new daughter cells. The cell cycle is tightly regulated to ensure that cells divide only when necessary and that DNA is replicated accurately to prevent mutations and genetic abnormalities
