Part 2 Complete the lab report.
Immunology Lab Report
1. Purpose:
Please state the purpose of the lab.
The purpose of the lab is to become familiar and understand the major cells
and organs of the immune system and to discover some important
applications of immunological research.
2. Procedure:
Briefly describe the procedure for this lab.
The procedure for this lab is to help with a critical health mission.
Briefly describe what you were asked to do in the virtual lab challenges.
• Put on a lab coat
• Review the coverage world map
• Understand the way the immune system works
• Invade and infect the human body
• Review the body system for immunity
3. Data and Details:
a. Describe components of the immune system by completing the following
chart:
Description/Function
Innate immunity This provides a rapid response to invading pathogens
and cellular damage, taking only a few seconds to a few
hours to become evident.
Adaptive immunity This is acquired after being exposed to a certain
pathogen B cells and T cells are their primary effector
cells.
IgG Most abundant 80 percent all circulating immunoglobin
molecules. Produced by B cells and plasma. Binds
invading pathogens and other foreign antigens and
triggers signals to recruit other immune cells.
IgM Made first by B cells when it encounters a pathogen.
, Activates the complement system and triggers an
immune response
IgA Phone in secretions such as mucus saliva and tears. Help
sweep along and destroy inactive pathogens by digestion
processes further along the way.
IgE Signals a response requirement from mast cells and
basophils. Involves allergic and antiparasitic response
only.
Thymus Site of T cell maturation and development with
thymocytes migrating to the thymus from the bone
marrow soon after their production.
