Erikson’s stages of psycho-social development Different stages of life bring different developments. He talks about emotions and social-psychological development
Parenting styles: -Permissive —> no rules, kids can do anything and parents are okay with that. Parents don’t care about their kids. Kids will become unable to develop healthy relationships and will try to stop feeling any emotion not to be hurt
-Authoritative —> respect their child needs and believe kids need freedom with certain limits. Parents listen to their kids and then lay down the rules, supporting them. Kids will eventually follow their interests, act freely, agree to rules after they’re fairly discussed
-Neglectful/uninvolved —> doesn’t pay much attention to their kids and their lives. Kids grow up without borders and unable to control their emotions and limits
-Authoritarian —> kids have to do what they’re told by parents. Parents don’t consider kids’ opinions. Strict rules are important because they allow their kids to grow up the right way and fit into society. Kids end up not living a happy life because they’re used to do what others want not to upset them. -Over-involved —> parents tend to replace their kids in their lives. Kids will grow up unable to do anything without their parents and will forever be dependent on them. ATTACHMENT Harlow —> used monkeys to study dependency and attachment. “Mother” for him means something that provides food. The little monkey gets attached to the mother model which is more physically comforting and warm. Attachment —> emotional bond between newborns and their caregivers
Bowlby —> claims attachment is true about humans as well as animals like monkeys
