1. Peer assessment refers to a system where students provide feedback by assessing and
using critical thinking to review other students' work. Peer assessment is a requirement by
the University of the People (UoPeople) because; it helps students get more insight in the
discussion and written assignments as well as skills and more experience in their academic
journey.
2. The benefits of peer assessments may include; it helps to sharpen student’s critical
thinking. In addition, it helps students to improve on their work by gaining additional skills as
they assess others' work. It also gives students more experience as well as new ideas in
their academic journey. Furthermore, peer assessment helps students to apply their
knowledge and provide feedback as they assess others' work.
3. Challenges of giving feedback in peer assessment may include; some students do not
have much knowledge about the assessing criteria or may not participate on time. In
addition, student’s not being familiar with the assessment techniques may be a great
challenge. Furthermore, students not reading carefully others peers' work before providing
feedback or grades may end up over grading or under grading. Moreover, some students
may also feel reluctant to comment or give feedback to their colleagues.
4. Challenges of receiving feedback in peer assessment may include; some students find
their assessment beyond their expectations so they disagree with whatever they receive and
sometimes become emotional. In addition, some student’s feel cheated and are not learning
from whatever they receive. Furthermore, some student’s take feedback they receive
personally and may feel what they receive was not specific and not being clear.
5. Strategies used to peer assess written assignments may include; you have to complete
the work and master the subject in the written assignment. In addition, login to the student’s
moodle and download the written assignment of the number of students assigned to you.
Read through thoroughly and use the assessing form to give marks or grades. Furthermore,
give feedback or comments why such marks or grades were given to them.
How to assess discussion assignments may include; answer the discussion assignment and
post itin the discussion forum first to be able to assess or see other people’s work. In
addition, read through other colleagues' work posted. Give grades or marks and comment or
feedback according to the discussion’s criteria.
