This class notes include the detail description of thalassemia
Thalassemia is a group of genetic blood disorders characterized by abnormal hemoglobin production, leading to anemia. The pathophysiology of thalassemia varies depending on the specific type, but generally involves defective synthesis of globin chains, which are essential components of hemoglobin. In individuals with thalassemia, there's a mutation in one or more of the genes responsible for producing the alpha or beta globin chains of hemoglobin. This results in reduced or absent production of one of the globin chains, leading to an imbalance in the production of alpha and beta chains.
