Lyme Regis
Lyme Regis Basic Information
Around halfway down the Lyme Bay shore, at 50(43'N, 002(56'W, is where Lyme Regis
Harbor has been located.
This is a very old harbor that has been used since the eleventh century and was
historically among the most important ports in England.
But those times are long past, and nowadays the harbor is home to yachts and modest
fishing vessels.
The Cobb, a sizable Western breakwater, branches toward the East to become Victoria
Pier.
This together with the Northern Wall's detachment make the basin that houses the harbor.
The inland side of this beachfront, that is highly well-liked by the general people, has
really been substantially filled in with sandy bank that now connects the North Wall also
with Cobb and the coast.
Cobb used to be a distinct settlement that earned the harbor its title; today, it is included
within Lyme Regis but is still relatively physically independent.
The Cobb Breakwater is currently a Grade 1 historic building in its own right.
With the exception of a pool of greater depths at the harbor entrance, which permits low
draft ships to stay afloat there at boarding stairs, the harbor is dry at low water (West &
Ian, 2019).
