Transitional Algebra
Detailed Course Description
This class will give students the opportunity to master skills needed to be successful in Algebra I. The course will be standards based
to create a strong foundation of algebra skills and will include assignments with a balance of procedural fluency, conceptual
understanding, and application problems. The topics will include the study of expressions and how to simplify them using the
properties of real numbers which will lead into creating and solving equations including linear equations. The course will also
investigate proportional reasoning. Students with a 232 and lower on the math MAP Assessment will be placed in this course which
is specifically designed to build skills needed to be successful in Algebra 1.
Unit 1 : Distributive Property/Equivalence/Expressions
Unit Description: In this unit you will write expressions representing patterns and sentences and you
will study several ways to simplify expressions using the properties of real numbers. You will model
and solve problems involving order of operations and the distributive property.
