Cultural Revolution - answer-An effort launched by Chinese Communist Party
chairman Mao Zedong during his last decade in power (1966-1976) to renew the
spirit of the Chinese Revolution. Young and dedicated Red Guards attacked and
bullied intellectuals, and those that lacked revolutionary fervor. Some were sent to
work farms to be re-educated. The havoc it created caused Mao to abandon it.
Deng Xiaoping - answer-The Chinese communist leader who was the most powerful
figure in the People's Republic of China from the late 1970s until his death. He
attempted to incorporate elements of the free-enterprise system into the Chinese
economy. The demonstrations at Tienanmen Square occurred during his time in

Xi Jinping - answer-The president since 2013. The Communist Party - at Xi's
suggestion (he is the party's general secretary) - dropped the two-term limit on
presidents in 2018. Xi was subsequently re-elected in 2018 to a second five-year
term. Xi has fought corruption in China, but has also exerted such power that he is
