In 430 BC- phenomenon of immunity was noticed by
Thucydides
In 1500- ‘Variolation’ technique was first performed by
Chinese and Turks.
In 1718- Lady Mary Wortley Montagu observed the positive
effect of variolation .
In 1798- Edward Jenner significantly improved the
variolation technique.
Louis Pasteur introduced the concept of vaccine- (from Latin
word , vacca, meaning ‘cow’). In 1881- Pasteur vaccinated
sheep against anthrax bacillus. In 1885- Pasteur tried first
human vaccine.
