I am going to write about some of the many resources that are available to help support you whilst
studying health and social care.
The Library is a resource that is available for every student studying Health and Social Care ( as well
as most other courses) the South West College has a library on site that students can use to help
them with study. Libraries are a great resource as you have access to a quiet place to study with
equiptment such as computers, books, WIFI and cheap printing which you can use to type up and
print off coursework. Library staff have a lot of knowledge and will be able to guide you on books
that would be suitable for you when obtaining information for health and social care coursework.
The loan system that is in place in libraries allows you to bring books that you want home for a
period of time also.

Textbooks- Another resource that is available to use are textbooks, you can read information out of
them easily, they have a contents page so you can quickly look up the section of the textbook that
you need and find the pages with the information easily. They can help a lot with revision as you can
take notes from them and highlight key points of information that you find helpful or useful.

Staff in placement - When you go on your work placement the staff there can help you collect
important information and items such as leaflets, accidents forms, menu sheets etc that you can put
in your PPD portfolio. You will find out how things run in your placement like procedures, policys,
confidentiality, fire drills etc which give you a better understanding of how things are run within a
professional health and social care setting. You should use this resource to give you
extremely helpful experience within a real health and social care setting and it will give you
a feel of what it is like to work in a place of that kind.
