Why mental health treatment should be free.
Over the years, medical attention has always been shifted towards those who are
financially capable. This approach has made it difficult for low-income earners to access quality
medical services. As a result, this category of people suffers from health- related issues including
mental problems. Since the inception if COVID pandemic, a lot of concern on mental wellness
has bred international conversations on the cognitive State of individuals. These conversations
aim at enabling mental health treatment free to all individuals, for the following reasons.
The cost of mental health treatment can be reduced down the line. Due to high amount of
funding that is needed to cover mental healthcare expenses, only 43.3% of adults in USA
experiencing mental challenges receive the treatment according to "A brief History of Mental
Illness and the U.S. Mental Health Care System". Those who are not in possession of insurance
cover and suffer from mental issues find it difficult to meet medical expenses. However, research
indicates that prevention approaches reduce the healthcare costs and patient's risk of suffering
from mental illness at extreme levels. When people are given an opportunity to access medical
services for free, then curbing early signs of mental illness can be achievable hence reducing
hospitalization expenses.
