Purpose:
How do you interpret a chest radiograph?
Stomach (left side)
Atelectasis – White due to loss of air
, Cadriophrenic and costrophrenic angle –
corresponds to the lower visible parts of the
pleura
Posterior ribs – more horizontally oriented
Anterior ribs – more vertical/diagonal in
appearance
Gastric bubble is under the left hemidiaphragm
Hilum would area beside the heart,
corresponding to the blood vessels/pulmonary
artery
Teleradiography – standard way of taking a
radiograph
Diaphragm will be higher if the patient didn’t
have deep inspiration, you won’t be able to
visualized all the ribs
Cardiophrenic angle – border between the
diaphragm and heart
Costrophrenic angle – border between the
diaphragm and chest wall
