Vestibule
The space that exists between the cheeks and lips.
Oral Cavity Proper
The entire intra-oral area including the teeth and the region from the floor of the mouth upward to
the hard and soft palates.
aveolar tissue
Tissue that covers the jaw bone. The soft, thin mucous membrane that sits above the marginal gingiva
and the attached gingiva, and continues across the floor of the mouth, cheeks, and lips.
Mucobuccal fold
The point at which the mucosa of the lips or cheeks turns to go toward the gingival or gum tissue. The
fold formed by the oral mucosa where it passes from the mandible or maxilla to the cheek.

Gingiva at the gingival margin of each tooth
Rugae
irregular ridges in the mucous membrane covering the anterior portion of the hard palate

anterolateral
Sides and front of palate. Area of the connective tissue, contains fats and cells. Is thicker.
posterolateral
Sides and back of palate. They are numerous minor salivary glands that secret mucus.

due to snoring. Uvula becomes enlarged.
Retromolar pad
pad of tissue behind the last molar on the mandible.
