Introduction
The United States healthcare system has always required a reform. One of the key issues
plaguing the health system is high medical costs and the increasing rate of medical errors.
Therefore, health reform has long been overdue. Another trending issue has been nursing
shortage with the aging population becoming a key contributor. Reform and restructure remain
crucial with the role of the nurse increasing as the health environment changes. The purpose of
this paper is to analyze how the Healthcare Improvement Act of 2021 affects nursing practice,
role, and responsibility even as quality measures and pay for performance affects patient
outcomes.
Current Healthcare Law
The current health care law is the Healthcare Improvement Act of 2021. The goal of the
reform was to reduce healthcare costs for working families by reducing healthcare premiums and
out-of-pocket payments (Warner, 2021). Having a low-cost public health care system is crucial
as the cost of healthcare has been on the sharp rise. The Healthcare Improvement Act of 2021
also aims to increase health care enrollment and access to care. This is being done by providing
incentives for states to expand their Medicaid program.
The Healthcare Improvement Act of 2021 will impose a positive effect on nursing
practice role and responsibility because it provides the framework for nurses to harness their
skills. They will work in an environment that is based on patient-centered care. Since issues of
expensive care will be removed, nurses will work with ease and explore various options that
contribute to positive patient outcomes. It will also promote care coordination in nursing practice
