Campaigned against strong central government and fought to end elitism. Whigs - Answer- Anti-Jackson political party led by Henry Clay that generally stood for national community and an activist government Log Cabin Campaign - Answer- name given to William Henry Harrison's campaign for the presidency in 1840, from the Whigs' use of a log cabin as their symbol Age of the Common Man - Answer- Age in which Jackson wants anybody who wants to be in the government in the government, not just the elite. Spoils System - Answer- the system of employing and promoting civil servants who are friends and supporters of the group in power Jacksonian Democracy - Answer- A policy of spreading more political power to more people. It was a "Common Man" theme. Tariff of 1828 - Answer- Protective tariff on imports that benefited the industrial North while forcing Southerners to pay higher prices on manufactured goods; called the "Tariff of Abominations" by Southerners. Force Bill - Answer- gave the president power to use military force to collect tariffs if the need arose Second Great Awakening - Answer- A second religious fervor that swept the nation. It converted more than the first. It also had an effect on moral movements such as prison reform, the temperance movement, and moral reasoning against slavery. Temperance - Answer- restraint or moderation, especially in regards to alcohol or food normal school - Answer- state-supported school for training high school graduate
