Introduction
The contents of the portfolio consist of a brief insight on my background, my linguistic
identity and the influence my family played on these two things. The purpose of this
was to force me to take a deeper look into what makes me who I am, and exactly
which elements are important in my linguistic identity. This is an evaluation of how
much of an impact family members and cultural events had on my identity and
development as a person. The relationship between the term Ubuntu and communal
life within a modern society will also be discussed. Along with how Ubuntu relates to
the English folklore story of Robin Hood. By reading the contents of this portfolio you
will learn about who I am as a person through a language perspective and how
language use impacts attitudes and personalities of people. There is a direct
correlation between language use and your linguistic identity, but it is not the only
aspect taking into consideration when making conclusions about a certain person.
