Virginia Core Pesticide Manual Ch. 1 Exam Questions and Answers 100% Pass Purpose of Virginia Core Manual - Answer- To support general safety training for all pesticide users Virginia Pesticide Control Act (VPCA) - Answer- State law that sets the rules for pesticide use in Virginia Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) - Answer- The State Agency responsible for ensuring the safe use of pesticides. Private Applicator - Answer- A farmer who uses restricted-use pesticides while producing an ag commodity on private land. May do so on others land but not in exchange for money. Commercial Applicator - Answer- A Certified Applicator who uses pesticides on the job, other than for agricultural production on private property How long must Worker Protection Standard application records be posted? - Answer- No later than 24 hours after an application is completed and continuously for 30 days after the last restricted entry interval or until workers or handlers are no longer on the establishment, whichever is earlier. Main Difference between the Four Classes of Commercial Applicator - Answer- Their Employer Commercial Applicator for Hire - Answer- Works for a pesticide business. He or she makes a living controlling pests for consumers who pay the applicator or employer for services rendered. Examples include exterminators and lawn services. Commercial Applicator not for Hire - Answer- Uses pesticides as one of several job duties. Examples include golf course superintendants and in-house pesticide applicators at private schools or food plants (Will and Chris). Commercial Applicator Government employee - Answer- applicator who works for a government agency. Commercial Applicator Inactive - Answer- Commercial applicator who doesn't use pesticides on the job but maintains an active cert every two years Registered Technician - Answer- An individual who renders services similar to those of a certified commercial applicator. Such a person has completed training and demonstration of those competency standards required for registered technicians but not the requirements for commercial certification. Registered technicians may apply general-use pesticides without supervision, and may apply restricted-use pesticides under the direct supervision of a certified commercial applicator. Training required for Registered Technicians - Answer- At least 20 hours of instruction and self-study of the manual. In addition, prospective techs must have direct onsite supervision of a certified applicator whenever they are handling restricted use pesticides. Credentials required to apply to take commercial applicator exam in VA. - Answer- one of the following. 1. a valid Virginia registered tech cert that has been in force for a t least 1 year 2. Proof of formal education, training, and/or experience in pesticide use comparable to a year's experience as a registered tech to qualify for testing.
