PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF LEARNERS:
Local diseases such as tuberculosis, diarrhoea, malaria, and measles.
Facts, causes, symptoms and treatment of each disease.
METHOD: Group technique
Group work provides a context in which learners help each other and safely
explore new alternatives and test the reality of some of their plans. A good start for
the teacher’s interaction with a group of learners is to determine a set of ground
rules for the group. However, as VanGundy (2005) emphasises, the teacher must
do it by using the group-work method so as to ensure that the group agrees with
the rules. The teacher must be careful not to confront the learners with the ground
rules, as this would alienate them and set their lessons up for failure.
