Recruitment

One of the most important things in managing and supervising people at work is
managing on how new people in the organization do. At the same time the supervisors
need to monitor all the other employees who are already working there. Team leaders
and supervisors have more responsibilities for overseeing the successful running of
series of integrated activities involved in team building. The recruitment process includes
identifying the skills and strong points a new employee has and require to work in the
team.

Induction and training

An induction program is set up for new employees; it includes a manual how to work
there and activities are written down in it and the new employee needs to prove he is
able to do the job. A good induction program should include:

- Describing where the facilities are, for example toilets, canteen
- Showing how the new employee fits into the team
- Health and safety information; this is a legal requirement
- An explanation of working terms and conditions
- Details of the organization’s history, its products and services, and its values
- A clear outline of the job role/requirements. The requirements of the job and the
job role should be explained in terms of how it fits into the team structure.

During this induction program the employee needs to show he is the right person for the
job.

Coaching and mentoring

Both coaching and mentoring involve an experienced person helping a learner or a new
employee to become more effective. There still are some differences between coaching
and mentoring; coaching would be meant for the whole team and focus on specific stuff.
However mentoring is more focused on one to one mentoring, it is meant for a long term
basis as well.
