Internal capsule
The internal capsule is a crucial structure within the brain, serving as a pathway for nerve fibers traveling to and from the cerebral cortex. It consists of white matter tracts that facilitate communication between the cerebral cortex and other parts of the brain, such as the brainstem and spinal cord. Divided into anterior and posterior limbs, the internal capsule is responsible for transmitting motor commands, sensory information, and other signals essential for motor control, sensation, and higher cognitive functions. Damage to the internal capsule can result in significant neurological deficits, highlighting its importance in maintaining normal brain function.
