Larynx
The larynx, commonly known as the voice box, is a vital structure in the human body responsible for producing sound and protecting the airway during swallowing. Situated in the neck, it houses the vocal cords, which vibrate to create sound when air passes through them. The larynx also contains cartilage structures such as the thyroid cartilage, which forms the Adam's apple. Apart from its role in phonation, the larynx plays a crucial role in preventing food and liquids from entering the airway by closing off during swallowing. Disorders affecting the larynx can lead to voice changes and swallowing difficulties.
