Pituitary gland
The pituitary gland, often called the "master gland," is a pea-sized structure located at the base of the brain. It plays a crucial role in regulating various bodily functions by producing and releasing hormones that control growth, metabolism, reproduction, and stress response. Divided into anterior and posterior lobes, it receives signals from the hypothalamus and responds accordingly, influencing other endocrine glands throughout the body. Dysfunction of the pituitary gland can lead to a variety of disorders, including growth hormone deficiencies, thyroid problems, and infertility. Its intricate control over hormonal balance underscores its significance in overall health and well-being.
