Mandibular nerve
The mandibular nerve, the largest branch of the trigeminal nerve, is crucial for sensation in the lower jaw, teeth, gums, and part of the tongue. It also controls the muscles involved in chewing. Emerging from the skull through the foramen ovale, it divides into several branches, including the auriculotemporal, buccal, lingual, and inferior alveolar nerves, each serving specific regions of the face and oral cavity. Dysfunction of the mandibular nerve can lead to various conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia, facial pain, or sensory disturbances in the jaw area, affecting daily activities like eating, speaking, and facial expressions.
