Lateral wall of nose
The lateral wall of the nose forms the outer boundary of each nasal cavity, consisting of bone and cartilage covered by mucous membrane. It features three turbinates or nasal conchae (superior, middle, and inferior), which protrude into the nasal cavity and help increase its surface area, aiding in filtering, humidifying, and warming incoming air. Additionally, the lateral wall contains openings for paranasal sinuses, crucial for air exchange and resonance during speech. Blood vessels within the lateral wall play a role in regulating nasal airflow and temperature. Structural abnormalities or inflammation of this area can lead to nasal congestion and breathing difficulties.
