Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics There have been several times that I have experienced giving a drug and the desired outcome was not met. Or the desired outcome was on the extreme end. One drug I see this with is Diltiazem. This is given in the ER often for acute rapid a fib. However, many patients drop their rate and blood pressure so fast it causes them to become diaphoretic and hypotensive with the risk of passing out. The other drug I see that does not always have the desired effect is benzodiazepine. I witnessed this effect mostly in the ICU but there are times in the ER that it makes the elderly more delirious than
