Middle ear
The middle ear, a vital component of the auditory system, is located between the eardrum and the inner ear. Its primary structures include the ossicles (malleus, incus, and stapes) which transmit sound vibrations from the eardrum to the inner ear. This chamber also houses the Eustachian tube, responsible for equalizing pressure between the middle ear and the environment. Infections or fluid buildup in this region can lead to discomfort or hearing loss. The middle ear plays a crucial role in converting sound waves into mechanical vibrations, facilitating the transmission of auditory information to the brain.
