Arches of foot
The arches of the foot are three curved structures formed by the arrangement of bones, ligaments, and tendons in the foot. These arches are the medial longitudinal arch, the lateral longitudinal arch, and the transverse arch. They provide support, stability, and flexibility to the foot during standing, walking, and running. The medial longitudinal arch runs along the inner side of the foot, while the lateral longitudinal arch runs along the outer side. The transverse arch runs across the midfoot. The arches distribute body weight evenly across the foot, absorb shock, and help in maintaining balance and propulsion during movement.
