Anatomical snuff box
The anatomical snuff box is a triangular depression on the lateral aspect of the dorsum of the hand, located at the base of the thumb, between the tendons of the extensor pollicis longus and the extensor pollicis brevis. It is named for its historical use in holding snuff (powdered tobacco) before inhaling. The floor of the snuff box is formed by the scaphoid and trapezium bones of the wrist, and its borders are defined by various tendons. Clinically, it serves as a landmark for locating and assessing injuries to the radial artery and radial nerve, making it significant in hand surgery and anatomy.
