When the author was 3 or 4 years old, he used to go to the beach with his father. The huge waves
washed over him and as a result he couldn’t breathe properly, this made him scared and his mind
filled with fear.
After few years he was pushed in a swimming pool by his friend and he experienced death closely.
This incident increased his fear. A few years later Douglas wished to explore the rivers but his
terror didn’t let him do so, all water connected activities were nearly wiped out of his life.
A few years later Douglas hired an instructor to help him in swimming. He worked hard and
learned swimming. Soon the instructor ensured him that he can swim in huge lakes and
waterfalls. But sometimes Douglas still feared of swimming in deep water. His instructor trained
him well and finally turned Douglas into a swimmer.
Douglas wanted to conquer his fear, so he started challenging himself to swim larger water bodies.
Gradually, his fear vanished and he was able to swim deep in the water fearlessly. He experienced
that death is peaceful and it is the fear of death that was terrorizing.
