Fascial spaces of hand
The hand contains several fascial spaces, crucial for understanding infections and surgical interventions. These spaces include the thenar, hypothenar, midpalmar, and interosseous spaces. The thenar space is located on the palm's radial side, housing the muscles controlling thumb movement. The hypothenar space lies on the ulnar side, housing muscles controlling the little finger. The midpalmar space is centrally located, while the interosseous spaces are between the metacarpal bones. Infections in these spaces can spread rapidly due to the loose connective tissue, potentially leading to serious complications if not treated promptly with antibiotics and surgical drainage.
